During our first day on the west Irish coast, we drove through the Burren, a beautiful rocky landscape in Clare County with pre-historic human settlement sites.
(Above) The Poulnabrone Portal Tomb which dates between 4200 BC and 2900 BC. Pre-historic human remains have been found at this site.
(Above) Limestone 'pavement' with cracks and small gullies. The boys loved jumping over the crevices.
We visited a circle stone fort in the Burren, which dated a few thousand years BC. An archeological excavation was ongoing, so there wasn't much for us to see inside, but it was impressive to see how well the fort walls held up over thousands of years.
