Florence was only a one-hour drive from Camp Darby. We strolled through the city at a leisurely pace. Our first stop was the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (the cathedral).

One of our favorite stops in Florence was at the Ponte Vecchio, which apparently means "old bridge." It is a beautiful bridge covered with colorful buildings, which are all occupied by merchants selling gold, jewelry, art, and souvenirs.
You can't go to Florence without visiting the Galleria dell'Accademia, where Michelangelo's famous sculpture of David is on display. Harmony managed to surreptitiously take a few shots of the statue.
We bribed the boys into behaving that day with a promise of gelato. Here Jack picked the "pink" kind (strawberry) while Lucas got chocolate. By the time Lucas was finished, his face and jacket were covered in chocolate.
We visited a street market on our way out. Here is a nice shot taken near the market of Lucas looking really cute:

Easy to tell when Aaron adds to the blog. He says, "Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore." Harmony says, "another beautiful old church." And, dude, I'm telling you, I thought crack was new but apparently not. Whoever painted the pictures in the dome thing was definately smokin crack. And the naked guy. What's up with that? Noone likes to look at naked guys, at least noone I want to know. Great blog Aaron. GREAT!
And by the way, I have the cutest, chubbiest cheek Lucas, smartest, strongest, fastest, wanderful grandsons in the entire universe.
Gelato bribery is in integral part of every trip to Italy with children in tow. Glad to see J&L enjoyed theirs as much as E&K do. :)
