This past August, Harmony and I took a much-needed 2-night getaway to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, without the kids. Jack and Lucas stayed with their grandparents in Idaho Falls. This was our first overnight trip without our children since we've had Jack. We loved the area! I think it is one of the most beautiful places in our country and there are an incredible number of unique activities for tourists. We went whitewater rafting down the Snake River, attended a cowboy/Western music show and dinner at the
Bar J Chuckwagon, and -- our favorite -- explored Grand Teton National Park. We liked it so much that we want to go back next year- and the year after that. Maybe Harmony will be willing to do the bigger rapids then or try para-sailing! (I'm not holding my breath.)
Grand Teton National Park is roughly a two-hour drive away from Idaho Falls, where Harmony's family lives. Below are some great shots of the famous peaks. The river winding through the pine trees is the Snake.
A few miles away from the park entrance are the remnants of an old Mormon pioneer settlement called "
Mormon Row." A lot of famous photos of the Tetons are taken from the barns at Mormon Row. We happened to run into a few buffalo roaming near the barns while we were there. There was also a grizzly bear warning sign.
Once inside the park, we drove to Jenny Lake, where we hiked about an hour and a half to Hidden Falls and then up to Inspiration Point, which had an amazing view of the lake and the area in front of the mountains. For about $15, we took a boat ride back to the parking area from a pier near Inspiration Point in order to avoid a long hike bike around dinner time.

Beautiful pictures. What a great adventure with just the two of you. Looks like you had a blast.
If you had so much fun how come you called home every 10 minutes to see how the boys were doing?
That's so crazy! We just did the same trip! We were supposed to do the same hike too, but we ran out of time. We'd love to go back another time. Maybe we could meet you guys there! I saw Harmony's comments on Facebook and just assumed she'd been there often since she lived close to the park growing up. It really was amazingly beautiful. We did some "back-country" hiking in Yellowstone and so we had to buy Bear Spray.
